Clinical Significance
(Time-resolved Fluorescence lmmunochromatographic Assay)
NT-proBNP increases with age, women of the same age are higher than men, and the increase in age of people over 60 is even greater. The reference range of NT-proBNP in Europe is: <50 years old, male 84pg/ml, female 155pg/ml; >50 years old, male 194pg/ml, 222pg/ml. The analysis of the difference between age and gender has the following reasons: on the one hand, the myocardium of the elderly becomes stiff, and the increase of ventricular wall tension leads to an increase in its synthesis. Renal clearance of NT-proBNP is reduced, while BNP does not depend on renal clearance. Therefore, NT-proBNP reflects the comprehensive heart-kidney function.
